The RevierRoute RevierWater - experience rivers and lakes

On one of the longest tours in the radrevier.ruhr you will experience the waters of the Ruhr area by bike. The two rivers Ruhr and Emscher in particular play an important role on this bike tour: While the Ruhr was used early on for recreation, the Emscher was the “workhorse of the region". Due to the long-standing use of the Emscher as a sewage canal, it has long been one of the dirtiest rivers in the Ruhr area. Fortunately, it is now being renatured and shines in new splendor.

Beautiful waters in the southern Ruhr area

On the 62 kilometers you follow, from Dortmund, the Emscher first upstream, where it has already been completely renatured. The Emscherquellhof is ideal as a photo motif. About the hair strand it then goes on to the Ruhr Valley and on the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path downstream according to weather. The water management of the region is based on the reservoirs Hengsteysee and Harkortsee, the Koepchenwerk pumped storage plant and the waterworks, which are responsible for Dortmund's water supply. From Wetter you can take the train back to Dortmund. The numerous cafés and restaurants are ideal for a culinary end to the tour.
