The RevierRoute Haldenglück - experience views

Are there no mountains in the quiet area? It is not quiet right! Because at the height of industry in the Ruhr area, large hills were created from the heaping up of overburden, slag and rubble, which have permanently changed the landscape of the Ruhr area. To date, a large number of the heaps have been renatured and made accessible. You can also go up the heaps by bike.

Climb heaps or admire them from below

The RevierRoute "Haldenglück" is a route that takes you around 38 kilometers past the heaps and is therefore easy to master at almost 190 meters in altitude. On the other hand, if you want to have the full heap experience, you should also climb one or the other heap. If you climb all the heaps of the route, the elevation gain of the tour increases to 340 and the total length of the route is also eight kilometers longer.

From heap theory to practice

The starting point of the bike tour is Essen Central Station. From there you first drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein and about the Customs union route continue to Kray-Wanner Railway, With the Rheinelbe dump the first “mountain” awaits you. Past the ore train booth, one of the most popular meeting places for cyclists in the Ruhr area, you cycle over the ore railway route further north. Shortly before the Rhine-Herne Canal you can see the on the right side Heap Pluto discover. For the Mountain biking is the Hoppenbruch dump particularly good. There is an official enduro course for mountain bikers here! On the Hoheward dump you will find a more moderate cross-country trail. You can climb the two heaps even without a mountain bike. At the end of the RevierRoute "Haldenglück" it's a relaxed ride to Recklinghausen.
