Railway routes in the Ruhr area - the Hugo railway

The former Hugo-Bahn leads you today as a cycle path from Rhine-Herne Canal to the Hugo colliery in the north of Gelsenkirchen. The Bahntrassenradweg is just under 5 kilometers long and can be seen as a worthwhile detour to several sights in the Ruhr area.

Pure industrial culture along the way

The Hugo colliery was merged with the Ewald/schlägel & Eisen colliery on April 1, 1997, and the shafts were then backfilled. Today there is a Bio Mass Park on the site. Directly in front of the pit, the Rungenberg dump be climbed. Also the Settlement Schüngelberg is as part of Industrial heritage route definitely worth seeing. On the Bahntrassenradweg you will also pass a former signalman's building, which is reminiscent of the former Hugo railway.

Cycle the Hugo Bahn

The Hugo Bahn can be used as a nice detour from the cycle path along the Rhine-Herne Canal be used. There is also a circular route over the Rhine-Herne Canal and the avenue of change, also a disused railway line.
