Railway routes in the Ruhr area - former cable car route of the Minister Achenbach colliery

A rather unusual Bahntrassenradweg leads in Lünen over 3,3 kilometers from the Halde Minister Achenbach I / II through the Brambauer district to the Datteln-Hamm Canal. Instead of rails, a material cableway originally ran here. Nevertheless, the cycle path allows cyclists a nearly car-free connecting route.

History of the cable car route

Originally, a cable car for transporting coal ran here in order to transport the valuable freight from the then new Shaft IV to Shaft I / II of the Minister Achenbach colliery. In 1968 the transport cable car was discontinued. Today, cyclists will hardly find any remnants of the former cable car apart from the route. However, historical photos of the old cable car can be found this website eingesehen werden.
