The Garden City RevierRoute - experience contrasts

The Ruhr area is much greener than many people think. If you still think it's gray and dreary here, you should definitely try the "Garden City" RevierRoute! Because on around 49 kilometers by bike you cycle exclusively far away from any traffic.

Cycling on Germany's first cycle expressway

The "tour through the green" begins and ends at the main station in Mülheim an der Ruhr and takes you at the beginning via the RS1, Germany's first cycle expressway, the quickest route to Essen. Fun fact: During rush hour you are even faster on the Radschnellweg than by car!

Railway track cycling, historic old towns and pure nature

This is followed with the Grugaweg another railway line that first takes you uphill in the direction of Essen and later downhill to the Ruhr. On the way you absolutely have to Garden City Margarethenhöhe visit, which is one of the most beautiful workers' settlements in the Ruhr area. The Ruhr Valley Cycle Path leads you along the Lake Baldeney to the historic districts Become and Kettwig (must see!) before you finally drive through the vastness of the beautiful Ruhr meadows back to Mülheim main station.
