The RevierRoute Colorful Bag - experience the flair of the Ruhr area

As a new RevierRoute since 2024, the "Bunte Tüte" (Colorful Bag) cycle tour combines sights in the Recklinghausen district, Dortmund, and Bochum over a distance of around 66 kilometers. The entire route presents a true potpourri of Ruhr region classics: in addition to a wealth of industrial culture with colliery towers, workers' settlements, and slag heap landscapes, you can also expect relaxed railway track cycling and beautiful shore paths, but also wonderful nature and wide views. And of course there are also a few typical shops along the way where you can get a mixed bag.

Mining history & nature

You cycle from Recklinghausen-Süd train station Rhine-Herne Canal along to Waltrop. The historical one Ship lift Henrichenburg is one of the big highlights along the way. A bike ride through the former lock chamber as well as a visit to the attached museum should be on your program. We continue to Castrop-Rauxel to the Schwerin dump. This is followed by a section with a lot of mining history with the Erin collieries, Zollern, Hanover and Ewald. But you will also find a lot of nature along the way before you finally arrive back in Recklinghausen.
