Riverside paths in the Ruhr area – The Seseke-Weg

At 25 kilometers long, the Seseke-Weg certainly cannot be described as a full-fledged “river cycle path”. The route along the banks of the beautiful stream is worth a (cycling) trip for cyclists in many ways. The Seseke Trail is a lot of fun, especially as part of a day tour.

The story of the Seseke

The Seseke is an inlet into the Lip and was similar to that Emscher a dirty sewer for a long time. Since the first renaturation work took place in 1984, the renaturation of the Seseke can be described somewhat as a preparatory project study for the major reconstruction of the Emscher - one of the world's largest renaturation projects. Today the Seseke is a clearly naturally flowing river that is already beginning to meander in some places.

“Walking on water” – art on the bike path

As part of the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010, the riverside path along the Seseke was artistically decorated and thus sustainably enhanced. Various artists have put up their works along the way, so that the Seseke-Weg is also interesting for cyclists interested in culture. At the same time, many of these works of art are also very popular as photo motifs. The most famous works include the installations “Now” and “Pixelrohr”.

Suitable day tours on the Seseke-Weg

Our RevierRoute “Mesopotamia“ runs over the Seseke-Weg and is completely over the node system signposted. If you're a beginner looking for a shorter tour, you'll find the "Beginner bike tour around Kamen“A small circuit.
