RS 1 – The Ruhr cycle expressway

The Radschnellweg Ruhr is a pilot project for the whole of Germany. At some point, the RS 1 will be the first cycle expressway to run across the Ruhr area from Duisburg to Hamm. Some sections have already been completed. Widely laid out, separated from pedestrians: inside and without traffic lights at crossings - that is the idea of the cycle expressway.

Traffic jam-free through the Ruhr area

The Radschnellweg Ruhr is primarily aimed at commuters who want to travel quickly in the Ruhr area and do not want to get stuck in long traffic jams on the motorways. But the Radschnellweg Ruhr is also an ideal way for holidaymakers to cycle between the cities in the Ruhr area. The RS 1 is to be gradually expanded over the next few years. In the meantime there are already considerations for an RS 2, which should run from Gladbeck to Essen.
