Rheinauen and stork country

First along the Auesee, the tour takes you further over the dike through the Rheinauen. After the path branches off the dike for a short time, it continues along the Rhine through the "Droste Woy" nature reserve in the direction of Bislich, a district of Wesel. Numerous stork nests await you along the route, which invite you to observe. In Bislich you leave the Deichweg.

Lakeland and Diersfordt Forest

After you have crossed Bislich, you cycle through a veritable lake landscape. The lakes to the right and left of you were created in particular by gravel mining or are still being created. At the Neuhollandshof, it's worth getting off your bike for a short while to explore the grounds of the Clostermann fruit plantation. Among other things, over 30 different apple varieties are grown here. A short time later, you have an ideal opportunity to take a break with a view of the Diersfordter Waldsee and its island biotopes. With the Houseboats Lower Rhine Very special accommodations await you here. There now follows a 3 km stretch on a cycle path alongside the road before you turn off into the Diersfordt Forest. Here is the Heideweiher Black Water, a hidden gem and the oldest nature reserve in Wesel.

Country idyll along the Issel

Continue on dirt roads in the direction of Hamminkeln, where you can fortify yourself with coffee and cake or a delicious ice cream. After Hamminkeln, the tour takes you along dirt roads parallel to the Issel. The 81,5 km long river has its source in Raesfeld and flows into the IJssel in Doesburg (NL) – no, not Duisburg. At the Bärenschleuse, here the river almost makes a right-angled bend, you leave the course of the Issel and drive back towards Wesel via a beautiful forest path. Through the district of Feldmark it goes back to the starting point at the Auesee.
