Bike tour from Herne to the Henrichenburg boat lift
This bike tour takes you from Herne to 35 kilometers Henrichenburg boat lift in Waltrop. From the train station in Herne it first goes through the city park to the former Mont Cenis colliery. A short time later, the route leads through the beautiful Teutoburgia colliery settlement in Herne. You cycle past the colliery structure in the forest and then cross it Rhine-Herne Canal.
Far away from car traffic to the ship lift
The tour takes you along the canal in a relaxed manner without traffic in a north-easterly direction. The Henrichenburg ship lift is the destination of the route. The entire lock park can be visited, but the museum is particularly worth seeing.

Via routes and canal bank paths back to Herne
On the other side of the canal, the route quickly leads you to the well-developed canal King Ludwig route. Along the way there are always beautiful exhibits of mining history. In a wide arc it goes through southern Recklinghausen, again completely away from traffic. The quality of the path is only not quite as good for the last few meters, but it is still easy for cyclists to ride. At the Herner Meer, the tour leads again Rhine-Herne Canal along – but this time to the west. At the Strunkede Castle the last few meters then run along the road back to the train station in Herne.
