Discovery tours in the cycling area.ruhr - Kirchheller Heide and Rotbach route

The Rotbach-Weg is an interesting destination for those who like to cycle off the beaten track. In combination with that Emscher way and the HOAG route This varied circular route with a length of 48 kilometers is created. With many forest passages and the driveway to the Haniel dump is the tour also for Gravel bikers very interesting.

The highest drivable heap in the Ruhr area

The circuit starts on Olga Park in Oberhausen with the scaffolding of the Osterfeld colliery. From there it goes over the Bahntrassenradweg Jacobibahn straight to Haniel dump. The strenuous ascent via the beautiful Way of the Cross past numerous relics from mining history is rewarded with what is probably the most extraordinary panorama in the Ruhr area. From the brightly colored totems on the heap plateau you can see the vastness of the horizon.

Experience nature in the Kirchheller Heide

After the descent, the route takes you to the Kirchheller Heide. The Grafenmühle leisure center is ideal for a culinary stopover. The most beautiful section with lots of nature and fresh air follows along the Rotbach. In Hiesfeld it is worth visiting the mill museum. The Rotbach-Weg finally leads you through Dinslaken to the Rhine.

The Emscher Weg and the HOAG route

The way back leads first to the new Emscher estuary. Since November 2022, the Emscher has been flowing the last few meters through a small estuary delta into the great Rhine, beautifully renatured. Above the signposted Emscher way The bike tour takes you upstream to the well-developed HOAG route. This Bahnstrassenradweg finally runs along the Sterkrade colliery back to Oberhausen.

Note on the discovery tours in the radrevier.ruhr

This tour is one of the discovery tours im radrevier.ruhr. This means that it also leads along cycle paths that are not part of the region's figureheads. However, accepting compromises in the quality of the cycle path also means being able to “experience” “undiscovered” tours off the popular and often heavily frequented cycle paths. Is a good path condition important to you? Then you should rather come to our 15 RevierRoutes drop by!
