Discovery tours in the cycling area.ruhr - The Hagen 4 Rivers Tour

This almost 60-kilometer round trip from Hagen takes you along four beautiful rivers in the south of the Ruhr area. The Ruhr is certainly the most prominent river, but the Lenne, Volme and Ennepe are also easy to explore by bike. With 420 meters of altitude and not so easy city traffic within Hagen, this tour is more for advanced cyclists: inside.

Experience a lot of nature in Hagen

The main train station in Hagen is a good starting point. From here, the tour first takes you west on city streets. In the Ennepepark in Haspe you leave the road network for a moment, it gets really nice shortly after crossing the Ennepe. Nature takes over and it suddenly becomes quieter. Again and again the Ennepe shows itself from its most beautiful side.

Relaxed cycling along the railway line on the coal railway

In Gevelsberg the tour leaves the Ennepe valley. Under the beautiful railway viaduct of the former Elbschetalbahn, the tour now runs next to the A1 and along a small stream. After crossing under the motorway, the tour meets the former coal railway in Haßlinghausen. On the former railway line you now roll relaxed away from the traffic to Silschede. Here, too, information boards repeatedly document the mining history of the region.

Premium cycling on the Elbschetalbahn and RuhrtalRadweg

After a short stretch on a country road that is unfortunately very busy, the junction follows a few dirt roads to the freshly developed cycle path on the former Elbsche Valley Railway. On the best asphalt it goes down into the Ruhr Valley near Wetter-Wengern. This is where the round tour meets the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path, which your upstream along the Harkortsee and a little later that Hengsteysees cycles.

Final sprint along the Lenne and Volme

With a view of the Hohensyburg, the circuit now branches off onto the Lenne route. While the river is bubbling away on the left side, the tour runs upstream and always offers nice breaks. Shortly after passing under the A 45 motorway bridge, the route branches off in the direction of Hagen Zentrum. It's uphill again, before a long descent follows on a road that is unfortunately quite busy. You will enjoy the end of the tour on the beautiful banks of the Volme before returning to the main train station.

Note on the discovery tours in the radrevier.ruhr

This tour is one of the discovery tours im radrevier.ruhr. This means that it also leads along cycle paths that are not part of the region's figureheads. However, accepting compromises in the quality of the cycle path also means being able to “experience” “undiscovered” tours off the popular and often heavily frequented cycle paths. Is a good path condition important to you? Then you should rather come to our 15 RevierRoutes drop by!
