Railway routes in the Ruhr area - the Nordsternweg

In the heart of the radrevier.ruhr, the Nordsternweg runs for around 5 kilometers from the UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein in Essen to the Nordstern colliery North Star Park Gelsenkirchen. Completely asphalted and with few crossings, the former railway line is ideal for cyclists. The Nordsternweg also leads you to the Schurenbachhalde over in Essen. An ascent is worthwhile, because from the top you have a great view of the central Ruhr area.

Bike tour of almost 30 kilometers

The Nordsternweg is part of one of the best developed day tours in the radrevier.ruhr. You start in the Nordsternpark and first cycle along the Nordsternweg to the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there it continues over former railway lines to Essen-Kray zur Bonifacius colliery. Passing the Mechtenberg you drive back to Gelsenkirchen, past the ladder to heaven on the Rheinelbe dump to ore train booth in Bochum. From there it goes for you over the ore railway route downhill back to Rhine-Herne Canal. From the ZOOM world of experience the path runs along the canal back to the Nordsternpark Gelsenkirchen.
