Railway lines in the Ruhr area - the small railway line Haspe-Voerde-Breckerfeld

Probably the most unusual Bahntrassenradweg in the Ruhr area runs in the very south of the radrevier.ruhr from Hagen-Haspe to Breckerfeld in the Ennepe-Ruhr district. While railway track cycle paths are usually at ground level and usually lead straight ahead, the cycle path on the former Haspe-Voerde-Breckerfeld narrow-gauge railway line winds its way up 260 meters in altitude in a few serpentines. Most of the time, the cycle path looks more like a forest path, only a few places are reminiscent of the past as a railway line.

Cycling where steam and electric locomotives used to be

On May 1, 1903, a steam train ran over the meter-gauge rails for the first time. From 1927 the route was even electrified and included in the Hagen tram network. However, since the operation was not really worthwhile, freight traffic was discontinued in 1954 and passenger traffic in 1963. An information board halfway along the route explains this story to you.

The Bahntrassenradweg Haspe-Voerde-Breckerfeld is part of the Ennepe round, which with 460 meters in altitude over around 45 kilometers is particularly suitable for Gravel bikers and cyclists who are looking for a sporty tour and are willing to accept both road sections and gravel roads.
