Railway routes in the Ruhr area - the Hamburg-Venloer railway

This former railway line was part of the Hamburg-Venloer Bahn, a national historical railway connection in north-west Germany that was part of the transcontinental railway project "Paris-Hamburger-Bahn". Today, the Bahntrassenradweg connects the towns of Wesel, Dorsten and Haltern am See over a distance of around 40 kilometres.

On the "Römerspuren" loop

On the section between Wesel and Dorsten, the "Römerspuren" loop also runs today Roman Lippe Route. Of course, the Romans didn't travel by train 2000 years ago, but you can find out a lot about the everyday life of the Romans and the hardships that determined the life of the Roman legionnaires back then.

Industrial culture and natural idyll

A few detours from the Hamburg-Venloer railway are necessary between Dorsten-Hervest and Lippramsdorf, as the railway line in this area has not yet been completely converted into a cycle path. But these detours offer some highlights. This is how you drive through the grounds of the CreativeQuartiers Fürst Leopold and experience industrial culture up close. In the so-called stork country, in the Hervest break, you have the opportunity to observe storks. Before you return to the railway line in Lippramsdorf in the direction of Haltern am See, you can enjoy a view of the Lippe and its floodplains from the Lippedamm.
