Railway routes in the Ruhr area - the Elbschetalbahn
The Bahntrassenradweg of the Elbschetalbahn leads south from the Ruhr valley near Wetter-Wengern to the Ennepe-Ruhr district. The extended route for cyclists currently ends after approx. 6,2 kilometers near Albringhausen. It is part of the RevierRoute”From dysentery to dysentery” and particularly captivates with the scenic charm of the green hilly landscape.
History of the Elbsche Valley Railway
The railway line between Witten and Schwelm was also completed for passenger traffic in the 30s. At the same time, coal from the Neuwulfingsburg colliery was transported over this railway line. In 1983 the railway line was closed. The first sections can now be experienced as a railway cycle path, with further expansion being planned. Despite the hilly landscape, the inclines on the Elbschetalbahn are moderate.
