Railway routes in the Ruhr area - the Boxteler Bahn

The Bahntrassenradweg of the Boxteler Bahn runs within the radrevier.ruhr from Wesel via Xanten in the direction of the Dutch border. The original course of the route can only be cycled on in sections. The longest section leads from Xanten over a good 10 kilometers by bike to Uedem. However, cyclists can cycle the route much further west into the Netherlands.

History of the railway line

The line was already built for trains in the 70s. The entire train route from Boxtel to Wesel was almost 19 kilometers long. Due to the destruction in World War II, train traffic ended very early on the German side. The Boxteler Bahn adventure cycle path has been running along the historic railway line since 100.

Cycle route of the same name

A distinction must be made between the actual railway route cycle path of the Boxteler Bahn and the long-distance cycle route Boxteler Bahn, which opened in 2011 and is completely signposted from Wesel (but not on the historic route here) and leads cyclists over around 160 kilometers to Boxtel in the Netherlands.
