The Bahntrassenradweg (banana cycle path) runs 3,6 kilometers south from the center of Dortmund into the Emscher Valley, providing an important and popular cycle route from the center to the Phoenix lake period.

The development of the banana cycle path
The route was opened as a railway line in the 80s. The last sections were shut down for trains around a hundred years later and have now been converted into a well-developed railway cycle path away from road traffic. Since the actual railway embankment is even longer than currently developed, an extension of the banana cycle path is to take place in the next few years.
