Railway lines in the Ruhr area - the avenue of change

The avenue of change takes you around 10 kilometers by bike from the Hoheward dump in Herten in a wide arc to the beautiful district of Westerholt. The former railway line links several interesting sights and is therefore particularly attractive for leisure cyclists.

Impressive photo motifs

The avenue of change starts at the Hoheward heap, which is considered the largest heap landscape in Europe and offers you extraordinary photo opportunities and panoramic views with the horizon observatory and the sundial. The strenuous ascent to the heap is definitely worth it.

Forest & half-timbered

The avenue of change leads you further through a beautiful forest area to the former Mine Mallets & Irons. At the end lies the historic center of the village of Westerholt with its numerous half-timbered houses. If you want to expand the avenue of change into a circular tour, you will find beautiful cycle paths in the direction of Gelsenkirchen Buer and can, for example, via the Hugo Bahn and along the Rhine-Herne Canal get back to the starting point.
