Railway routes in the Ruhr area - the HOAG route

The HOAG route, a former railway line belonging to the "Hüttenwerke Oberhausen Aktien Gesellschaft" (Oberhausen Steelworks Corporation), runs between Oberhausen and Duisburg, a distance of approximately 12 kilometers. Where freight trains once transported coal from the Sterkrade colliery in Oberhausen to the Rhine port in Duisburg-Walsum, you can now cycle in peace and quiet, away from road traffic. The cycle path was opened in 2007 and is now an important part of the radrevier.ruhr (Ruhr Cycle Region) in the western Ruhr area. Many bridges have been renovated to ensure cyclists can enjoy a route with as few intersections as possible.

Detour via the Green Path

The direct connection of the HOAG route to the equally disused Grüner Pfad railway line allows you to cycle to the Duisburg-Nord Landscape Park . The disused steelworks is one of the most spectacular industrial monuments in the Ruhr region. From there, cyclists can continue to the Rhine and then downstream back to Duisburg-Walsum, creating a beautiful circular route.
