The highest drivable heap in the Ruhr area

The circular route starts at Olga Park in Oberhausen, near the headframe of the Osterfeld coal mine. From there, it follows the Jacobibahn railway cycle path directly to the Haniel spoil tip . The strenuous climb via the beautiful Stations of the Cross path, past numerous relics from mining history, is rewarded with what is probably the most extraordinary panorama in the Ruhr region. From the brightly lit totems on the spoil tip plateau, you can gaze out into the vast horizon.

Experience nature in the Kirchheller Heide

After the descent, the route takes you to the Kirchheller Heide. The Grafenmühle leisure center is ideal for a culinary stopover. The most beautiful section with lots of nature and fresh air follows along the Rotbach. In Hiesfeld it is worth visiting the mill museum. The Rotbach-Weg finally leads you through Dinslaken to the Rhine.

The Emscher Weg and the HOAG route

The return route first leads to the new Emscher estuary. Since November 2022, the Emscher, beautifully renaturalized, has flowed its final stretch through a small delta into the Rhine. Following the signposted Emscher Trail, the cycle tour takes you upstream to the well-developed HOAG railway line. This railway cycle path then leads past the Sterkrade coal mine back to Oberhausen.
