Discovery tour through the district of Unna
This nearly 40-kilometer circular route takes you from the Gneisenau coal mine in Dortmund through the Unna district. Away from the beaten track, the route follows beautiful riverside paths , leads through unexpected woodlands and expansive fields. With little car traffic, this bike tour is also ideal for families with children. Highlights include the impressive headframes of the Gneisenau coal mine, the artworks along the Sesekeweg trail, and the Preußenhafen (Prussian Harbor). For those arriving by car, there is some on-street parking available at Gneisenau Park. The Dortmund-Derne train station is also located right next to the mine site.
A bike ride in nature
From the Gneisenau colliery, the circular route leads you south. Initially on smaller city streets with bike paths, it quickly leads to a great nature trail through a nature reserve. There you can take a deep breath and enjoy nature - relaxation guaranteed. The path leads you past the edge of Unna. You cycle along smaller streams such as the Massener Bach and later along the Körne. On the Sesekeweg, a short detour to the pixel tube is worthwhile, and a little later the sculpture “Now” is a welcome photo motif.

The route along the Seseke River leads you to the Horstmar lake park in Lünen. At the Preußenhafen ( Prussian Harbor ), you can enjoy a delicious currywurst or a good piece of cake – just the right preparation for the return journey via the Gneisenau cycle path. Away from road traffic, this railway cycle path leads you back south to your starting point at the Gneisenau coal mine.
