Holiday idea 4: A long weekend in the cycling area.ruhr (3 nights / 4 days)

The long bridge weekends in particular are ideal for getting to know the radrevier.ruhr a little more intensively. You have the choice of making a small round trip or going on exciting day trips from a fixed accommodation without a lot of luggage. We have worked out a little bit of both travel ideas for you.  

A classic round trip on the junction system 

For a classic bike tour over a long weekend, you could start in Mülheim an der Ruhr at the main station, for example. From there it's about 50 kilometers on the first day to the three major visitor highlights Landscape Park Duisburg-Nord, Gasometer Oberhausen and UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein. The first overnight stay could then take place in Essen.  

On the second day you cycle around 60 kilometers from Essen to Dortmund and experience great things along the way railway line bike paths and canal bank paths. As visit highlights are the Rheinelbe dump, the Zeche Ewald familiar with the Hoheward dumpwhich Ship lift Henrichenburg and the Hansa coking plant on the way. In the evening you will certainly be able to replenish your energy reserves in one of the many breweries.

Railway routes, river biking and more

On the third day, the tour covers 40 kilometers from Witten to Bochum. After Rhenish donkey is mainly the visitor tunnel of the Nightingale colliery become a major highlight of the trip. Regional cycling from a central accommodation

Essen, for example, would be very suitable for central accommodation. From here, with a little help from public transport, you can get to four eventful RevierRoutes cycle - and without having to carry a lot of luggage on your bike. On the first day the "tasting piece“ as an introduction to the long cycling weekend. On the second day, the RevierRoute "garden city“ in the green south of the region. On the third day we go on the RevierRoute "mine ride“ with the visit highlights UNESCO World Heritage Site Zollverein, Gasometer Oberhausen and Tetrahedron Bottrop.
