Along the Emscher

Our travel idea starts at Dortmund Central Station, which you can easily reach by train from all parts of the country. A little bit of city traffic will quickly take you to the Emscher way, your upriver at well-known sights like the former Steelworks Phoenix West and the Phoenix Lake follows. Behind the Emscherquellhof it becomes more and more rural until you reach the beautiful old town of Unna. A little lunch break is worthwhile here.

Otherwise you will reach your overnight stay in Bergkamen. The unique "Herbert" mining tunnel on the premises of the Bergkamen guest house will certainly be one of the most unusual overnight stays of your life.  

Mining experience on the second day

On the next day of cycling you ride relaxed Datteln-Hamm Canal along until your am Prussian port on the beautiful Bahntrassenradweg der Gneisenaustrasse turns. This leads you directly to one of the most beautiful colliery ensembles in the Ruhr area, the Gneisenau colliery in Dortmund. You cycle on to Dortmund-Ems Canal and to Zollern colliery, in which you can get a deep insight into the life of the miners. In a big loop it goes over the Rhenish donkey back to Dortmund. If you are traveling quickly, it is worth making a detour to Witten Nightingale colliery, where you can visit a real mining gallery. Back in Dortmund, we naturally recommend a delicious beer at the Bergmannbrauerei booth at the end of the tour.
