The "Railway History(ies)" circular route is approximately 58 kilometers long. The starting and ending point is Bochum Central Station. From there, you cycle to Westpark with the Jahrhunderthalle Bochum (Centennial Hall Bochum) , which hosts numerous events throughout the year. This is also the starting point of the Erzbahntrasse ( Ore Railway Trail), which leads you from Bochum to Gelsenkirchen. The Erzbahnbude ( Ore Railway Hut), located directly on the trail and a popular and iconic cyclist stop in the radrevier.ruhr (Ruhr cycling region), offers you the opportunity to take a short break.
Final highlights in Bochum
The route then continues along the Kray-Wanne railway line to Essen. The Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site is quickly reached via the Zollvereinweg . A short stretch through city traffic leads into the center before the next railway cycle paths await. The Rhenish Railway is being developed into the Ruhr Cycle Expressway . At junction 1, the tour switches to the Grugaweg , which eventually takes you into the Ruhr Valley. A short section of the Ruhr Valley Cycle Path leads you to Germany's largest private railway museum in Bochum-Dahlhausen, where you can admire old steam locomotives from bygone days.
