MTB in the Ruhr area - Der Brammen.Trail

The 6-kilometer Brammen.Trail meanders around the Halden Schurenbach and Eickwinkel. The circuit has a flowy character and is also easy to ride for beginners. The few meters of altitude allow for long and easy trail passages with lots of waves and beautiful berms. The mountain bike trail mostly runs through trees, bushes and shrubs, making it an intense experience of nature in the middle of the Ruhr area.

Flowy mountain bike fun in the middle of the Ruhr area

The trail on the Schurenbachhalde is the longer section with the most vertical meters. The Eickwinkel dump further to the east is a little flatter. Separated by the Schurenbach and the North Star Walk, which is also a shortcut between the two heaps, there are not quite as many vertical meters to be overcome on Eickwinkel with a height of 21 meters above ground level. However, the seating options on the Haldentop are the ideal place for a break to enjoy the great view of the slab of the Schurenbachhalde or the tetrahedron to enjoy in Bottrop.

Green hilly landscape in the shade of the slab

Where naturally flat land dominated, the Ruhr area has built its own range of hills. An exciting, green leisure landscape was created from the former spoil heaps of hard coal mining. The Schurenbachhalde is located on Emscher Straße in Essen-Altenessen and is named after the Schurenbach watercourse, which was only recently partially opened up again. The rolled steel plate "slab for the Ruhr area" on the vegetation-free Haldenplataeu is a monument and symbol of the industrial past of the district. It is almost 15 meters high, weighs around 70 tons and  anchored more than 13 meters deep in the ground.

Getting to Brammen.Trail

The car parks on Emscherstraße and in the "Fritz industrial park" are suitable starting points for mountain bikers arriving by car. From here it is only a few meters to the start of the circuit. Via junction 61, the new circuit is also closely connected to the regional cycle path network of radrevier.ruhr. To avoid accidents, the circuit may only be driven on in the specified direction.

The MTB circular course “Brammen.Trail” was realized as part of the Green Gap Closing action program of the “Offensive Green Infrastructure 2030”.
