Gravel in the Ruhr area - With the gravel bike through the Haard

The Haard is the largest contiguous forest area in the radrevier.ruhr. A dense network of forest roads and trails runs through the Haard and makes it an ideal area for cyclists on gravel bikes or Mountain bike. The length of the tour can be adjusted to your own requirements just as quickly as the difficulty of the paths. Our tour tip is an easy way to get to know the Haard. For advanced gravel bikers, the Haard also offers the completely signposted mountain bike route haird on tour which, as an easy mountain bike route, is also easy to ride on a gravel bike.

A taster tour of the Haard

With just over 30 kilometers in length and only 240 meters in altitude, the round is just a small taster tour through the Haard. The forest car park in Flaesheim is a good starting point. From here the tour first takes you to the fire watchtower on the Rennberg. Of course, a short climb is also worthwhile to enjoy the panoramic view over the Haard.

The tour heads south and finally leaves the Haard forest area. A piece follows on the one that is only slightly expanded here King Ludwig route. At some point, this section is to be connected to the well-developed route in Recklinghausen. With the Halden General Blumenthal 8 and Zeche Ewald continuation there are two short climbs. Above all, the second heap gives you a nice view of the colliery structure of the Ewald colliery continued. 

Cycling pleasure in the middle of the forest

From Oer-Erkenschwick, the gravel tour takes you back to the Haard forest. On the Farnberg you head north. Along the way you pass the former "Lost Place" of the Haard mine, which is now being demolished. A little later, the tour passes the Flaesheim excavator hole. along the Wesel-Datteln Canal cycle path the tour then leads back to the starting point in Flaesheim.
