About forest paths to Halde Rheinpreußen

Starting at the Haus Rheinblick car park, the route first takes you along forest paths, past the forest lake to the first heap of the tour. Via a beautiful serpentine gravel path, you climb the Rheinpreussen heap in Moers, including the Geglühs, and enjoy a magnificent view of the Rhine, the heavy industry in its vicinity, and vast forests and water areas.

Past a former manor to Halde Northern Germany

From the heap it goes down quickly on gravel, later also on asphalt. The route takes you through quiet residential and service streets, past the remains of the historic Tervoort house, a former manor, to the foot of the Norddeutschland heap in Neukirchen-Vluyn. A quite curvy small dead-end road, which is closed to motorized traffic, takes you to the approximately 103 meter high heap with the hall building made of steel girders.

The Pattberg heap

It continues sometimes on gravel, sometimes on asphalt, along fields and meadows to the heap of the former Pattberg mine. It goes up on beautiful gravel paths and down on a serpentine path. Note: Keep left in the last right-hand bend to get to the rear path, which is a bit hidden. The path leads you through open fields and fields through Kohlenhuck and Rheinkamp, where there are many beautiful and lovingly designed houses and gardens.

On idyllic paths back to the start

After crossing the Duisburg - Xanten railway line, the tour takes you to the Budberg lake landscape in Rheinberg. The lakes here were formed as a result of decades of gravel quarrying. On an idyllic path you drive on a kind of dam between two lakes, whose water surfaces flash again and again between the trees. After you finally pass the Lohheidesee, the route takes you through Baerler Busch and a bit along the Rhine back to the start and end point of the route.
