MTB in the Ruhr area - Der Brammen.Trail running

The 6-kilometer Brammen Trail winds its way around the Schurenbach and Eickwinkel spoil heaps. The loop is flowy and well-suited for beginners. The minimal elevation gain allows for long, relaxed sections of trail with plenty of rollers and berms. The mountain bike trail mostly runs through trees, bushes, and shrubs, making it an immersive nature experience in the heart of the Ruhr region.

Flowy mountain bike fun in the middle of the Ruhr area

The trail on the Schurenbach spoil heap is the longer section with the most elevation gain. The Eickwinkel spoil heap, located further east, is somewhat flatter. Separated by the Schurenbach stream and the Nordsternweg trail , which also serves as a shortcut between the two heaps, Eickwinkel, at 21 meters above ground level, doesn't require quite as much climbing. However, the seating area at the top of the heap is the perfect spot for a break to enjoy the fantastic view of the Schurenbach spoil heap or the Tetraeder in Bottrop.

Green hilly landscape in the shade of the slab

Where flatlands naturally dominated, the Ruhr region has created its own hills. The former spoil heaps of hard coal mining have been transformed into an exciting, green recreational landscape. The Schurenbach spoil heap is located on Emscher Straße in Essen-Altenessen and is named after the Schurenbach stream, which was recently partially uncovered. The rolled steel plate, "Slab for the Ruhr Region," on the vegetation-free plateau of the spoil heap is a monument and symbol of the region's industrial past. It is almost 15 meters high, weighs around 70 tons, and is anchored over 13 meters deep in the ground.

Getting to Brammen.Trail

The car parks on Emscherstraße and in the "Fritz industrial park" are suitable starting points for mountain bikers arriving by car. From here it is only a few meters to the start of the circuit. Via junction 61, the new circuit is also closely connected to the regional cycle path network of radrevier.ruhr. To avoid accidents, the circuit may only be driven on in the specified direction.

The MTB circular course “Brammen.Trail” was realized as part of the Green Gap Closing action program of the “Offensive Green Infrastructure 2030”.
